I am so glad to see this!

fuck that: Okay, so I was trying to ignore this post, however I’ve been seeing it 3-4 times a day for the last week so I’m going to respond. This kind of stuff drives me crazy the argument that it puts forth is wrong on so many levels. First if we accept the argument as it is presented, that is ‘heavier women are more attractive than skinny woman’ we would have to realize the inherent fallacy of the argument. The goal of the picture is to illicit the response, ‘that’s not attractive!’ regarding the skinny woman, if this is true than the question the post presents is also mute because it never became more attractive. However even saying the argument is incorrect is in a way destructive. If we decide that being heavier is more beautiful then companies will market pills to help people gain weight, woman will attempt to force their bodies into unnatural states so that they can achieve a certain body type and everything else that goes along with there being an idealized body type. The truth of the matter is that some woman will always be considered more beautiful than others, the problem is that we place so much value on beauty. Some people will always be faster than others, stronger, taller, shorter, whatever and while these things have some value in our society it does not compare to the value we place on looks. This is why I hate this photo, it still places all of the value on how women look! A better argument would be a photo of a Paris Hilton and a photo of a female scientist with a caption that read, “when did we decide to value this more than this.”
